Meet Your Inspector: Pantelis Ambatzis, CMI®

I'm Pantelis Ambatzis, the inspector behind MTL Home Inspection. I've been inspecting buildings in the Montréal area since 2003, and I'm a Certified Master Inspector (CMI®). When you book with MTL Home Inspection, I'm the one who comes to the property, and I'm the one who writes your report.

My background

My career in inspection started at Air Canada, in the industrial sector, a demanding start that shaped how I work today. I then moved to residential and semi-commercial buildings, where I felt I could be most useful to people, and earned a building inspection diploma from Institut Grasset. Since then, I've inspected houses, condos, plexes, commercial buildings and even farms across Greater Montréal.

I have also acted as an expert in about 16 cases before the Tribunal administratif du logement (TAL) and the civil courts. That experience keeps my reports precise: I write what I saw, where, and why it matters.

How I work

I inspect according to the BNQ 3009-500 standard, the standard for pre-purchase inspections in Québec. You're welcome to come along for the whole inspection: I explain each finding on site, in plain language, in English or French, and I tell you clearly what is urgent, what can wait and what should be checked by a specialist. I don't give repair cost estimates and I don't do repair work, so my only interest is giving you an accurate picture.

My tools go beyond a flashlight: a moisture meter, a thermal camera, a drone for roofs that aren't safely accessible, air sampling analysed by an independent lab (results in about 72 hours), and asbestos testing when suspect materials are visible.
